Back-to-School Bento: 4 Nut-Free Recipes Kids Will Love
Hi Parents!
Packing a school lunch every day can feel like a juggling act, it needs to be healthy, filling, easy to eat, and something your child will actually enjoy. To help take the stress out of mornings, I’ve put together a few simple, nut-free recipes that are balanced with protein, fiber, and healthy fats, giving kids the steady energy they need to learn and play.
These recipes are designed to be eaten cold, fit perfectly into an ecohako stainless steel lunchbox, and are quick enough to prepare on busy school days. Here are four of my go-to ideas to make lunchtime both nourishing and fun!

Idea 1: Chicken and Hummus Pinwheels
-
Main: Whole wheat tortilla spread with hummus, filled with shredded chicken breast, grated carrot, cucumber sticks, and a little grated cheese. Rolled up and sliced into pinwheels. Greek yogurt to dip.
-
side: Sugar snap peas + blueberries
-
Energy bite: Mini oat & raisin cookie (make sure you choose a nut-free one)
Idea 2: Tuna & Sweetcorn Pasta Salad
-
Main/large soup container: Whole grain pasta tossed with tinned tuna, sweetcorn, diced red pepper, and peas. Dressing: olive oil + lemon + pinch of parmesan.
-
Side: Sliced apple or pear with sunflower seed butter dip
-
Energy bite: 2–3 dried dates + tahini dip (small soup container)
Idea 3: DIY Pita Pocket Bento
- Main: Wholemeal pita cut in half, stuffed with falafel, shredded lettuce, grated carrot, and homemade tzatziki (yogurt, mixed with a little powdered garlic and cucumber).
-
Side: Carrot + bell pepper sticks.
-
Small soup container: Roasted chickpeas (seasoned with olive oil + mild spices).
-
Energy Bite: Fresh strawberries or blueberries.
Idea 4: High-Energy Egg & Quinoa Bowl
-
Main: Quinoa salad with boiled egg slices, edamame, roasted pumpkin cubes, and feta. Dressing: olive oil + lemon.
-
Side: Whole wheat crackers with cream cheese.
-
Energy bite: Grapes + dried cranberries mix
All you need is an eco-friendly sustainable lunchbox like ecohako to keep the food fresh until lunchtime. The easiest part? The ecohako box is dishwasher-friendly so no need to hand wash it every night. Love a parenting win!
